University Health and Safety (UHS) carries out the official health department duties for the University of Minnesota working in partnership

with UMD EHSO and various departments within the University system.

The responsibility for serving food on campus rests with UMD Dining Services.  The contact for catered events is Fresh Leaf Catering at 218-726-7177 or [email protected]. For additional information click on the appropriate link below: 

  • Due to a recent alignment with Regent's Food Safety policy, the following are exemptions from needing a food permit.  If your event meets one of these exemptions, you do not need to submit an on-line food permit application.
    • Events where expected attendance is 25 people (or fewer);
    • Internal University faculty, staff, service unit or office events to which the general campus community is not invited (Events open to an entire academic school, department or college are not considered an internal event);
    • The food items are nonperishable and obtained from a licensed commercial source (candy, bottled water, pre-packaged beverages not requiring refrigeration, coffee, tea, chips, cake, cookies, buns, brownies, packaged ice cream, etc.)
