Radioactive Waste

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is required to manage radioactive materials in compliance with Title 10, Part 20 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR, Part 20) and Chapter 4731 of the State of Minnesota Rules, and university regulations. The University of Minnesota Radiation Protection Division (RPD), Department of Environmental Health and Safety, with the review and approval of the All University Radiation Protection Advisory Committee (AURPAC), establishes uniform policies and procedures for the use of sources of ionizing radiation, and ensures compliance with the required procedures for collection, packaging, labeling, transport and disposal of radioactive waste generated throughout the University of Minnesota.
